Brown Girl Woke Independent Samoa

We have 3 programs in Samoa

SPACE DANCE MENTORSHIP: The core dance group are 18 dynamic youth that are unemployed and come from low income families. This initiative teaches the dancers to become mentors, leaders, empowered by going into rural areas sharing theirs stories and 2 hours of dance class twice a week with primary level village kids.

Street Kid Vendors: As street kid vendors in Apia are rapidly multiplying we have made a program partner with their parents to allow them to come to our dance classes and a break from selling trinkets on road. This is also a great way to have them be in a structured class room, and learn discipline because a lot of the street vendors do not go to school.

Rural areas Projects: We are in Solosolo, Safata and Ewa, Savaii The reason for this project a lot of rural area primary schools have high dropout rate because students help families on the farm. As we build our after school program it’s a place they can still have teachers, mentors and structure class room to learn and to be empowered by the community.
